THE STORY:

An image from the late 1940s. The former miners will recognize themselves in this group photo by the then simple leather helmets, headlights were still used, the classic petrol lamps for those who bore some responsibility for detecting the presence of firedamp and the others who had to make do with the heavy “pot lamp” with the heavy battery in the holder.

An image that conveys all the characteristics of the miner's existence in those days. A team of ten miners composed of Poles, Hungarians, Dutch and Belgians. In a decor that was seen by outsiders as a chaotic image. Against the background of the coal seam, the power cables, the compressed air hoses and the tools stand and hang in an apparently disorderly manner. However, an ordinary everyday underground scene, in which the miners found their way, felt at home. On the other hand, it was not romantic. The bare upper bodies are reminders of the temperatures that prevailed underground. The dangerous coal dust was always present. While the iron frame support did not always provide a safe shelter. And yet this dozen exudes a certain pride about their profession.
