THE STORY:
The mine rescue party descended into the mine with the Draeger equipment on their backs. This image was taken in 1956 for the Golden Jubilee album issued in 1957. In that year, the Eisden rescuers were also deployed during the rescue work at the Marcinelle mining disaster. It consisted of experienced miners who had to go to the training center in Kiewit on a monthly basis for training. In the sixties they were also the experienced guides for the people who wanted to visit the underground of the mine during the weekends.
