‘Ondergronds’ (underground) immediately evokes the image of a coal miner with a layer of dust on his face, working hard in the extensive underground passageways. The roasted malt largely determines the colour, aroma, and flavour of this beer. The beer turns dark brown in the glass and has a cream-coloured foam head. Kompel Ondergronds undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle so the beer is protected better and develops a more complex character.
It’s recommended with game stew, cheese, and desserts with dark chocolate.
